Wow!

Thank you, whoever nominated me! *loves muchly*

...

I think I had my first migraine yesterday. And here I was, thinking, hey, over two decades migraine-free! Maybe I'm one of those lucky people who will not get them.

Alas.

There I was at work, with part of my vision in my right eye blanking out. You know how when you look into a bright light and then look away, spots remain over your eyes, and you can't see through them? That was me, except I never looked at a bright light. It didn't hurt at first. Started out as an ocular migraine, painless, with spotty vision and glittery, wavery edges to what I could see. And then it went away.

Only to replaced by a slowly building headache right across my forehead. Yeah, I don't think I've ever had a headache that felt quite like that.

It started making me nauseated. But I was suspecting a migraine from about ten minutes into the spotty vision because of something a professor of mine once told me about her migraines: Hers didn't hurt, but a black spot would form right in the center of her vision and grow and grow until all she could see was the edges around it. And then it began to sparkle and glitter, and she would have to stop doing whatever she was doing until it went away. Kind of neat when she put it into the context of the class she was teaching: Magic, Witchcraft and Religion. Just imagine if you were having that kind of migraine back before anyone knew or even suspected such a phenomenon. You'd probably interpret it as a vision of some sort, a prophecy, a sign... Puts a lot of modernly recognized ailments and conditions into a new light, doesn't it? Schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, epilepsy, and a lot more... Make you think. *ponders*

At any rate, I eventually went home from work and crashed into bed for five hours straight, and when I woke up, Headache was gone. *cheers* My head felt all pressurized, but the pain had departed, and that's money, right there. So. Got a lot of advice about it: no chocolate, no caffeine, complete darkness with a cold compress, certain herbs and remedies, no processed meat, drink lots of water... Anyone else? Things that have worked for you?
