Hm.

The Day the Earth Stood Still receives a whopping one and a half stars from my local paper.

Yeah... no. I think I'll stick with the original 1951 version, which is easily a four or five star movie.

Gort, klaatu barada nikto. Patricia Neal and Michael Rennie for the WIN!

yeah, i just got back from seeing it.

i can't remember the original, but i don't remember there being loads of plotholes.

i do, however, remember loads of good discussion in the movie that has been utterly lost in lieu of FX.

which, of course, is typical of movies nowadays.

stay well clear.

keanu isn't even cute in it.

Absolutely. I have no use for ridiculous makeovers of great old films. The old one is a classic, and will never be bested. I heard on a commercial for it today that there was "material not suitable for children" or some such garbage. I think just about anyone could watch the old one (although Patricia Neal Gort can be a little bit daunting). And Michael Rennie was so perfect for that role.
