I'm the same as you were with horror, to the point that my 12 year old self could not watch the Basilisk scene in CoS in the cinema and my 16 year old self walked out of the Da Vinci Code and tried to forget the self-flagellation scene... I'm still not ready to go there, maybe when I'm older!
