I think challenges would be a good start. People have to start writing about it first to get the message out there. A community could be opened once there is enough of a demand, maybe. I don't know. It could also work the other way around. A community can get the word out and then people will start writing more and more about it.
Either way, the message gets across. As for interest... Well, that remains to be seen. Based on your fic's response, I say the message is slowly but surely getting across. If you can challenge your writer buddies to write one (just one) fic or even a drabble and post it all at once as a rec post, the message would be a bit louder.
