Actually, I think Tracy Hickman is a guy. But I love the work the two of them did together, especially the first trilogy ogf Dragonlance. The other books are written by various other authors and I don't like them all that much. Too much character changing is not good for me. :( But yeah, Tolkien. That guy rocked. My favorite book by him is the Silmarrillion, about the history of the elves. Incredible, but soooooo dense. Let's just say if Pete Jackson were to tackle that book, he'd need about 25 hours of tape.
