I don't know that I am intimidated by the number of books he has, but the number coupled with the lack of clear markers as to which was the first was something of a turnoff.

I think, from a commercial standpoint, that the War of Wrath or the War of the Powers would make the most sence. Those have definitive story arcs with lots of room for special effects and violence on an epic scale.
