Nothing like a SilentAuror to get your blood pumping...

It's a rec day! My choice of recs today is... SILENTAUROR. It's Celebrate Auror day!

[livejournal.com profile] silentauror is one of the most prolific fic writers I know of. There is rarely a week when she hasn't graced us with one (sometimes two) of her creations. She goes for H/D most of the time, but also dabbles in some Seamus/Blaise, and is a decided Snarry fan as well. I find myself most in awe of her tension-building abilities when it comes to the boys: whether it's funny under-the-table shenanigans at a restaurant, the weighty thud of a club beat, or the quiet depression of what is unspoken between two friends, SilentAuror digs her nails in and can be quite relentless with the mood. I have come to appreciate the quickening of my heart and the uncontrollable desperation I feel, even before I realize exactly what Auror has done to make me feel this way.

On to the recs. (No disclaimers or warnings here. Check them out before you dive in.)

The Auror-list:

Agnus Dei

H/D, rated R

Post-Hogwarts. Harry and Draco work together as Aurors, while finding the little comforts of life outside of the secular. My favorite of SilentAuror's stories, and very high up on my list of all-time fandom faves. The friendship between Harry and Draco here... I have experienced this sort of friendship and it is just amazing how she crafts their interaction: the closeness, the comfort, the sheer need... and the decision of when to pull away.

...

Road Rage

H/D, rated NC-17

Harry is experiencing difficulties because of a traffic jam. Short, very sweet, but with such a tone of panic, as if the whole thing will suddenly fall apart. A wonderful example of how to craft a story around the small issues that mask the bigger ones. This really is a turning point fic. One misstep, and it would all fall away.

...

Someone Like You

Seamus/Blaise, rated PG

Seamus is about ready for a commitment, provided someone else is up for the challenge. I just had to stick this one on my list. I simply adore the pairing, and Auror does such a nice, gentle job with a fun scene. But it's also the things that are hinted at with a certain other couple that bring the grins. (A companion to another story, Black Tie Formal.)

...

The Beautiful Stranger series

Beautiful Stranger
Beautifully Familiar
Always and Forever

H/D, rated NC-17, AU

What if Draco had gone to Durmstrang instead? Harry's trip to a club for Hermione's birthday leads to a meeting made in OTP-heaven. I love Harry in this. So pensive and curious, leaping headlong into something before considering all ends. And then the interplay between the two of them is lovely because of Draco’s motivation. The trust and tentative nature of this series is wonderful. *coughcontinuethisAurorpleasecough*

...

Bittersweet

H/D, rated R

The capture of the Malfoy family does not go as planned. A wonderful safe house fic, with Harry and Draco at odds over the ghosts of a past they won't discuss. Draco’s plight is very visceral and real. You completely understand what he’s going through. And Harry… He refuses to back down, to acquiesce. Because he knows he is right. Trouble is, they are both right.

...

And finally...

Want

H/D, rated R

The Slytherins go clubbing every night, and Harry wants to know: Why can't the Gryffindors come, just this once? This might very well be my favorite club-fic. The pictures Auror paints of Draco and Blaise in particular are enticing, jaw-dropping, and jealousy-inducing. No wonder Harry is troubled. ^_^

So, there are my picks of the Auror-list. She's also got a couple WIPs that I haven't had a chance to read yet. For the rest of her (numerous numerous numerous) fics, visit her Skyehawke page HERE. It's Celebrate SilentAuror Day on Ru's lj!

Hear hear.. Bittersweet is a definte nice read...

Totally agree with you!

Agnus Dei is my favorite. I love all the one's I've read so far. I told her I've been slowly going through her fics. Hehehe.

*smooches on you*

I hope you are well, lovely!

I have to add a rec for her fic, Old City Jasmine (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=9969). It is a fic that just transports the reader to another time and place. Amazing.

*jumps on SilentAuror Day bandwagon*

I haven't read everything but pretty close. You're right, of course! This is such a great post from you to her!

i'm so glad to see you spotlighting silentauror's fic! and man, you totally hit the fics i love, too. i must re-read "angus dei" [the one that first drew my attention to silentauror]. i think her long fics deserve mentioning, too--"alliance and sedition" for how visceral it makes the war and then her current wip as the first good novel-length post-hbp fic i've come across :).

thanks for your rec days, ru!

[identity profile] oohyaoi.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny that you mention her, because I'm currently camped out at her Skyehawke page and reading "Allegiance and Sedition."

I've also read some of her one-shots, and I agree with you wholly. She has the ability to make you feel a wide-range of emotions from fic to fic, or even within just one.

I feel like I have so much catching up to do! H/D is new fandom for me, so I'm frantically trying to read all the good fics. I'm glad I stumbled upon SilentAuror!

Her latest WIP is fanstastic. I told myself I would wait until it was done, but I didn't have the willpower. I can't wait for the next update.

Happy to worship at that altar, because SA is a wonderful writer, and more than that, she's a wonderful person, and lovely friend, and I think the world of her.

So celebrate her, worship her, love her. She's wonderful!

*hugs*

She is utterly wonderful (especially because she does BZ/SF...), and I really need to find time to read a ton more of hers. :D

Oh. My. God.

Had NO idea you had this up your sleeve! I am absolutely speechless. Speechless, I tell you!

You darling, darling thing! I have never in my wildest dreams dreamed of someone doing a "me-rec" day! You are so incredibly nice and fantastic in every way, and how much more wonderful is it that this is coming from another writer whom I totally adore and fangirl to pieces??? :) Thank you so much!

I'm always terribly interested to see which ones people will like in particular, too. I'm still back at the stage sometimes where I'm terribly pleased that anyone read the fic, never mind liked it! So, there's just a whole lot of love going down here right now! Thank you!!

♥♥♥♥♥♥

And just for the record, I only ever have one WiP going on at a time. :) The other long ones are all finished. :D

I officially reserve an advance seat in heaven for you for this. :) Or shall we threesome with Draco, perhaps? :) Either way. Thank you so much, you totally made my week! :)

I'm so with you here. [livejournal.com profile] silentauror is the writer who got me to read something other than Snarry. And there's nothing she's written that I haven't adored. Mmm, Want. And Agnus Dei. Those might be my favorites right this second. But then I'll stop by her author page and read a different one, and love the nuance she put into the characterization of Draco or Harry, something beyond teh hotness, and just like that I have a different favorite. :)

BTW, I am really enjoying the responses you put on the Ginny/Harry question. You say so much of what I think, and in a MUCH more organized and thoughtful way than I can.

What a lovely idea! Thanks especially for giving recs and links -- I have some reading to catch up on! :-)

[identity profile] spacetweenears.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for another great rec entry!! I went and read ALL of them. SHO good!!

[identity profile] swtjemz.livejournal.com 2005-11-21 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
wheeee! ALL of those are my favorites but then again, I adore SA's fics like MAD. I've read all of them except her current WIP since I've been insanely busy and I just adore her h/d. Although I want her to continue writing Blaise/Seamus because it's another pairing I love.

*snuggles*

[identity profile] lirren.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
*cheer* I adore SA's stuff, and even though I swore to never read another WIP, I find myself completely caught up in her new one. I'm so weak.

I know you had to pick and choose (because otherwise I'm sure you'd have had every one of her stories linked!!), but I just had to throw in an emphatic nod for Wings of the Storm (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=6841&PHPSESSID=c7e3f2dcce6318df60115577acf2e6ce) which I think has become my all-time favorite story, managing to barely edge out Transfigurations. It's beyond amazing.
