Hm.

The Day the Earth Stood Still receives a whopping one and a half stars from my local paper.

Yeah... no. I think I'll stick with the original 1951 version, which is easily a four or five star movie.

Gort, klaatu barada nikto. Patricia Neal and Michael Rennie for the WIN!

Absolutely. I have no use for ridiculous makeovers of great old films. The old one is a classic, and will never be bested. I heard on a commercial for it today that there was "material not suitable for children" or some such garbage. I think just about anyone could watch the old one (although Patricia Neal Gort can be a little bit daunting). And Michael Rennie was so perfect for that role.

YAAAAAAAAAAAA PICARD

Um. AhemIlovehim.

I totally agree with you. The first movie didn't NEED to be remade. It still stands on its own, and will continue to do so until human nature changes, thus making the lesson no longer applicable. It's like watching them remake Psycho practically word for word. There was NO REASON TO DO IT. The movie just ended up being overshadowed by its former (and better) counterpart.

I love Patrick Stewart as well. I saw him in Macbeth The Scottish Play last year on Broadway. He is one of those men who just keep getting better looking with age, damn him.

Yeah, TELL ME ABOUT IT. He's always been a total handsome-hottie. ^_____^ Mum and I used to canoodle over him whenever TNG came on.
