Yeah, I think fanfic writers take the characters in HP (and in many other fandoms) to such wonderful new depths and heights that it is hard to see those same canon characters go the way we did not plan for. I really would be happy getting to see more of who Draco and the other darker characters are, even if they do not switch sides, because I am wary of a sudden cliched switch at the end, which would redeem and then kill them. I think that is totally overdone, and I will be upset if she does that. Kind of a cop out, you know? I have so many hopes for Draco... I really am keeping my fingers crossed... And I can't understand how she doesn't like his character. As a creative writing major, I have rarely ever written a character I truly hated, balls to bones. Hating their behavior is fine, of course, but hating the character completely? The way I see it, what's the use of writing that character into such an important role if you hate him or her? Doesn't make sense to me.
