Indeed. In college, I took a course on the works of Tolkien and Lewis viewed not as fantasy literature, but as mythology. Fascinating approach to the material. My final paper was "Death and Rebirth in Narnia and Middle-Earth", examining the Beren-Luthien story as a variant of the Persephone myth, and comparing Gandalf and Aslan as variants of the Christ myth.
