Another fic search! This one's a bit different though.

Having recently read Momenti Diversi by [livejournal.com profile] zarah5, I have yet again realized that one of my favorite premises for H/D is the fic that is set in another country. So I have decided to compile a list, sorted by country and then alphabetically, of all the fics of this genre.

If you have a favorite fic like this, I WOULD LOVE YOUR INPUT. (Self-pimping is also welcome. ^_~)

But. There are some rules.

First off, these can be one-shots, completed chapters fics, drabbles, WIPS... I don't care. Length is not the issue.

Second, I would love for the setting to play more of a role in the story than just a city/country name on a page.

Third, multiple countries are fine. For instance, something like Paris by [livejournal.com profile] abbycadabra, wherein the character's rove quite a bit, is fine. But the story must take place primarily in a different country than England. Therefore, while [livejournal.com profile] emmagrant01's Left My Heart works rather well, the sequel Surrender the Grey does not qualify.

Fourth: The fics must ALL be H/D or have H/D in them as a prominent pairing. No exceptions. If you have fics with other pairings that fit this category, go ahead and link if you must, but just know that they will not be going on this particular list.

Fifth: Time period is not an issue either. They can take place during school, after school, post-war, when Harry and Draco are 214 years old living off social security... I don't care. I do not do chan, though. As this will be my list, I reserve the right not to put chan on it. I'm going to have to be firm about this one.

Sixth: I admit to being a little... undecided over fics such as Seven Days by [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii, which take place in a setting other than England, but not in a different country per se. Most likely, fics like this will not go on the list, but I need to puzzle over it for a bit. Go ahead and link; they may end up getting their own category. ETA: These types of fics HAVE INDEED received their own category, so do not hesitate to link!

FORMAT: It would help me a great deal if you could provide me with the

Title,
Author,
Country,
and Rating

when you link. If you do not know those things or don't have time to list them right now, then the simple link is fine. My emphasis is on getting these stories together. I can find out the details on my own if I need to. ^_^

ETA: (This section will be updated as new issues arise.)
~If you would like to use this as a challenge to write a different-country H/D fic, please be my guest!!!
~AU fics are just fine.

Thank you so much for helping me out with this! It is greatly appreciated, and I will work on getting the final list up in a couple of weeks.

Wow, very nice idea! I'll be looking forward to it (and YAY no chan!). I'll be anxiously waiting to see if there are some set in Portugal.

Hmm. Now I think about it, a trip to Sintra may just get me some more plotbunnies... *ponders*

Aaanyway, I'll be sure to let you know if I find some!

I have had a request for Prague as well, so we'll see what pops up. If not, hell, I'll do a more formal challenge to increase the number of fics in this list. ^_^

Where's Sintra?

Portugal, near Lisbon. I tell you, it's one of the most incredible, beautiful cities I've ever visited. And believe me, I've been in more places than I can possibly remember... And it has this aura to it, this huge magical feeling, you know? You could write a story about it so easily, not only because the set is perfect for ancient Portuguese wizarding culture, but because it is so easy to fall in love with that place. It's not a very big city (according to Portuguese standarts, of course... Seeing that London probably has more inhabitants than all of Portugal, well, you can see how small we are over here.), but it's very peaceful and has lots of gardens. In fact, that's one of the things I love most. It's just so, well, natural, such clean air, and there are places over there just... perfect.

Well, at least for me, that is. :D

Sorry, I got passionate about it. *giggles* I guess the next time I go there, I'll take even more piccies than I already have, and do a photo-fic thing. Harry/Draco, of course. ;)

Oh, and just a few photos of Sintra:

Erm, sorry. Got too carried away. It's just that I simply adore Sintra.

Oh, and if I'm not mistaken, that movie with Johnny Depp - The 9th Door or something - was also filmed at Sintra! At The Pena Palace, to be more precise.

Dude. I indeed got carried away.

Ooh, Prague! I've heard so many nice things about it. I wanna go there some day. Do you live over there?

I never made it over to Prague. I toured France, Italy, Germany, and slipped int Salzburg, Austria in 2000, then lived in London for four months a couple years ago. But I am American, Californian to be exact.

I found London to be the same way. It was astounding to be walking down the street, to turn a corner, and come face to face with something a hundred times older than me. The Palace of Justice in London just... made my jaw drop to my ankles. And it came out of nowhere! All these sixties buildings, some nineties buildings, and WHAM. ANCIENT. It was amazing.

Those pictures are gorgeous. That stairwell reminds me of a more modern stairwell in the Vatican. But so much older. And the outside shot looks like something out of the jungles of India.

I believe that movie was called The Ninth Gate. And if that was Sintra, then it truly is astoundingly beautiful. I loved the setting in that movie.
