You know? That really sounds awesome. I love the idea! And, having just spent the year doing hd_365, I fully commend your idea about having a set backstory already before the actual writing commences. It would leave far fewer questions to worry about for the writers.
What kind of process did you have in mind? We've found that fourteen writers works pretty well, with a bunch of back-ups, and as the comm is ending this January, I think your idea would get a lot of support.
