what happened? i havent heard anything about any explosion...news travells slowly...

I don't think they're quite sure yet. The theory right now is that a gas main exploded and took out the water supply as well. There's an article here.

Pretty scary stuff
all's quiet here in San Jose, but we're getting constant newsfeeds on it
