rurounihime: (loki)
Everyone, I have a friend from my elementary school days whose family is in dire straits. They have been homeless for a couple months now, she, her partner and their three children, living out of their car, which is not in the best shape. They've gone through the official channels, including CPS, and are on multiple housing lists in the Sacramento, CA area, but have had no luck getting housing. Both parents are work-capable, and drugs are not involved. Both Tashina (my friend) and Steven have appealed to their families for help with even just one of the children, and have had no takers. They are now seriously considering putting their children into the foster system.

I've started a gofundme account for them here. Please, anything you can spare will help. Tips on housing in the area, job opportunities, people renting out rooms... I think if they had a home base, they would be able to find their feet again.

I have nothing to donate. I wish I did. What I can do is share this with various friend groups, if that's okay.

That would be fantastic! Thank you very much!

A friend shared these resources. I don't know if your friend has tried them or not, but it can't hurt to look at the links. If anyone shares anything else with me, I'll let you know.

Some resources:

http://www.svdp-sacramento.org/about-us/organization/conferences.aspx (This lists all the parishes with SVDP conferences--I would contact the Cathedral's conference first as they likely have the most resources and the best connections to any diocesan programs.)

I tried to share some links with you for Sacramento area resources, but livejournal said it was marked as spam. Let me know if you can't see them.

I've reposted this to both my lj and to [livejournal.com profile] wish_list, sure hope that it helps, sweetie.

Have you considered getting in touch with [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge for him to make your notice about your friend part of his Radio Free Monday post? Sam has a huge friend's list and it would really help get the word out to maybe help your friends more. Sam's a great guy, I know he'd want to help. :)

Good luck!

*hugs*

I made a post here: http://tripperfunster.livejournal.com/350799.html

I'll let you know if I get any bites!

(Also, you really know this person well? I just hate to get internet scammed.)

I can tell you that I've known her since we were 9 years old. I don't know all the details about what happened to them, but it's apparent they aren't drug addicts and that both parents are invested in their kids and in each other. I set the account up myself, so that at least I can trace for you from the beginning. However, I absolutely understand caution in this regard, and I urge you and your contacts to use your best judgment about what to do. I've decided I'm giving a finite amount and then drawing the line. But seriously, Trip, do what feels comfortable. The goal is definitely not to cause more stress for others. I should know... I've been mightily stressed this week in light of my friends problems.

Hey, if you know one of them well in rl, then that's good enough for me!

I had two bites for commissions! So yay! That's $80 for your friend. I hope it helps.

I recommend contacting Family Promise of Sacramento. http://sacfamilypromise.org. They focus on homeless families with children and take them through a program to help them become self sufficient again.
