Dude - my friend worked over there teaching English, and she said they'll take just about ANYONE with formal academic higher education qualifications, lol! She told me one guy had a Diploma in Sport or something ridiculous, but still! English teacher! lol
You would think, wouldn't you? Teaching requires a certain talent to do well, let alone teaching a language. But, with friends who have done Japan and Korea, apparently the criteria is set pretty low.
I do know that, particularly in Japan, the GOOD teachers tend to get requested and are held in much higher regard, and hence get paid much better and occasionally are requested to do less classroom teaching and more curriculum development and evaluation.
Anyway, I should stop spamming and get back to work, lol.
I think they are very desperate for teachers to come, and that's why they have less strict standards. In some programs it's very competitive, like JET, and in others, it is not so competitive.
