Question:
I want to post links to music that goes with my WIP. What kind of trouble can I get into for uploading songs and sending them out via YouSendIt? I really don't see the problem, as it's sort of like copying cds or cassettes for friends, and I'm not making money off of it, but I am wondering if anyone knows any rules for this kind of thing.

Okay, looking at those two statements, I have no idea what I'm saying. Thank you for the compliment :-D.

Even making cds and cassettes for friends is actually a violation.
In general, they are only going after people who distribute large servers of music. But if they wanted to come after you for sharing one song, they could. For instance, with Napster and other file sharing programs, huge servers worth of music were made available and the music companies had no real way of tracking down individuals, so they just tracked down Napster.
It is unlikely that they would come after you for sharing one song; it is even unlikely that they would know that you are sharing it in the first place.
On my regular rant...The business model is going to have to change. Big music companies are trying to stop the inevitable, but it is an impossible task. And in trying to stop the tidal wave, they are making themselves into the bad guys.
If you are worried about it, maybe you could still post the artist and titles...a link to a place we could listen to it legally like myspace or the bands website???
I personally love to get the complete world that writers think up and often times that includes music.
:)
