Oh, because it's been a few years since I've done it, and I like having something to strive for, and it's actually kind of fun, plus, there's the added bonus-bonus of being able to tell people I did it. ^__^

I'm pretty sure there are, though I think the cold water and the tides have always been the bigger issues. But there will be hundreds of people swimming with us, and kayakers circling around to help us out, so I'm feelign alright about it. I did it once before, about four years ago, I think. It was fun, if FREEZING! O.o

Yup, Alcatraz prison. Only it's a preserve, so they will be dropping us in the water about 100 feet off the shore. We can't touch the island. *laughs* And then we swim back. ^_^

You are amazing! That sounds like fun, but would never do it because one, I don't have to stamina for it at all and two, it's COLD in the water, and three, it's COLD and I don't want to possibly die from hypothermia (which probably won't happen since I'll be moving, but still). Be sure watch out for floating debris in the bay. Good luck and have fun!!!

Thanks for the tip! I am, luckily, in a wetsuit for the swim, and a polar bear cap, so that will help with the temperature. I know people who swim it "naked," which means speedo only, sans wetsuit, but I don't think I have the guts or the mindset to try that. O.o I'm quite happy in my wetsuit, thank you very much. ^__^

Yeah, it's the cold and the currents that were the main factors preventing escape from that prison, or so I have been told. I've done it once before, a few years back, and while it is definitely cold, it is also definitely do-able, so I am getting excited about it.

And yeah, I saw that rainbow picture and thought, "woooow!" It really is a nice shot, isn't it?
