Okay, I have two questions for everyone...

First, some vital information. I am embarking on what will probably end up being a fairly long fic. At this point, I am trying to put my ideas together; the actual writing of said fic will not be for a bit. (I have two other fics I need to concentrate on finishing right now.)

Premise: AU. Harry and Draco have a rock band... and everything that comes with it, good and bad. There will be NO MAGIC in this fic, possibly no Hogwarts, but various characters will make an appearance. H/D eventually.

So. My questions are:

I need info on the recording process. I plan to ask my good bud who was in various bands for about five years, but I would love to hear any info you may have to impart. Success stories, musical mishaps, asshole producers, bunged up records, botched deals, auditions, WHATEVER. If I choose to use an idea or part of one, you will be credited, of course. But I am afraid I know very little about the process itself. Any help you could give me, any websites/movies/books you could point me to, would be marvelous.

XD XD I am so sorry about my 2nd band response. XD XD I honestly had no ideas I am so stupid UNWORTHY UNWORTHY!!

I think as far as lyrics go...well, what I'm doing with my little ficcie is that I'm mixing it up; I'm using freaky_zero's poems and then I'll do a professional lyric. BUT I never use the whole song. People tend to skip the whole drawn out process, but they will pay attention to it for a few seconds. If it's too long, they stop reading it. I think people like to read what is happening and how it deals to what they are singing. What I plan to do is grab all my favorite pieces of songs and combine them to make one song for my story. You're free to do the same, because I think that will make one KICK ASS SONG.

Ah, wise words, dearest! Thank you. I will take them to heart. And yes, I agree: I tend to get exasperated with songfics for that very same reason... that I just end up not caring about the lyrics in full. So they will be interspersed. The best part is, though, that this fic will take place over a few months (of Harry/Draco time) at least, so I will get to use lots of songs! *squee!*

I'm willing to be your sounding board on this if you like. I've been in the music world all my life. I can tell you what I know about recording, lingo, gigs, what can go wrong, equipment, venues, touring, what bands really get paid, the writing prosess, groove, falling outs...whatever, baby!

I went all over with the band names, since I didn't know what kind of rock band they have. I can't wait for this fic. I'm all excited.

My vote is to write your own lyrics, then people will pay attention to the words you want them to read. If it's a song that everyone knows, they'll hear it in their heads while they read. Not a bad thing, but if they love or hate that song it will colour what they think of the fic.

I don't really mind whether you use other people's lyrics or your own poetry, so I didn't do the poll. All I'd say is can you imagine the poetry set to music?

As for your question about general recording process, etc, I know a lot of people in bands and basically the ones that do best are the ones who don't give up, and try different angles and keep touring in their manky van in dingy venues. Maybe you could have friction in the group because one of them wants to give up or something and the others want to keep trying no matter what?

If you wanted music, I could definitely give you some ideas for songs, but it'd be easier if you needed a song for a specific mood or something because I have a lot to choose from. Ahh, music.... I can't believe I only got 2 CDs for Christmas this year. Shocking! Have to make up for it in January Sales!

Sorry, I tried to come up with something that either had to do with the words Parseltongue or basilisk (hope I spelled both of those right . . .) but was coming up with nothing. I mean nothing. Snake Skin Daddies is stupid. Ignore it. Just totally ignore it. But something that has to do with snakes would be appropriate I think. You know, snakes are badass. Bands need badass names.

The only other thing I came up with you probably won't use, since it smacks of Fire. But I've got two words: Neville, bagpipes. It just struck me as I was listening to an 80s song that incoporates electric bagpipe sounding stuff. Any way. It would be funny :-D. But probably not very realistic. :-\

My New Years was okay. Didn't do much. Buffied till I couldn't Buffy no more. I have all seven seasons under my belt now *underwhelmed with the stupid pride.*

Any way, Buffy good. Spike wasn't as fun though without the insanity. Oh well. Alls well that ends with a little death but not too much. I also finished off the first two seasons of Sliders this morning. Ah, all the DVD TV I loves.
