rurounihime: (acting by miss_padfoot and kadath)
I saw two good movies recently.

The first, X-Men 3 (went and saw it today). Good film, most definitely. The darkest of the three. It felt good to be able to point out plot points and characters from the original comic series to all the noobs who you can just TELL were not fans of the X-Men as children. Either that or they are too young. I found the ultimate body count to be very, very high, especially in the ranks of the regulars. Quite depressing, for sure. Some things I would have liked to see more of. Fire, you are right: I miss Gambit. And WHERE THE BLEEP WAS NIGHTCRAWLER?? *weeps* Oh, but wasn't Angel the hottest? Mmmmmm... *drools* *wants wings*

The second, Silent Hill (about a week and a half ago). I tell ya, I am very glad to see one of those horror video games finally make itself into a good stand-alone movie. Resident Evil, fun for kicks, but not all that great when it comes right down to it. And Res Ev 2? Totally incomprehensible about halfway through. Either that, or just not scary anymore. Too bad, because that game series is FREAKY. But Silent Hill... Man, that was like the scandalous love child of Lovecraft and Giger. TOTALLY up my alley as far as what is scary. I liked them twitchy nurses, for sure. And I just adore the ghost story concept about alternate dimensions, and brushing past each other while on separate planes. And that whole issue about Daytime versus His Time. That was a stroke of genius, and it makes me want to play the game. But again, Fire, you are right: the death scene of Alice Krige's character Christabella? Totally over the top, and definitely thought up by some male somewhere, probably a tentacle-hentai lover. *shakes head in disappointment* I really recommend this movie. Waaaaaay creepy, way bloody, way engrossing, except for that death scene I talked about back in the spoilers section. The actors were wunnerful, with the exception of a certain ebil child. *rolls eyes at a certain ebil child voice-over* But Kick-Ass Cop Girl, Cool Mom Girl, Hot Dad Boy, Crazy Bag Lady, Ebil Religious Fanatic Lady, and BAD-ASS WITH THE FUNKY POINTY HELMET FROM YOUR WORST NIGHTMARES GUY were great!

Did I ever tell you about the day I first played Silent Hill? Well. I also played Resident Evils 1 and 3, and watched "Excel Saga" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" in the same afternoon. Kind of a mind fuck of a day, all around. ^_^

My sis got a big ol' trampoline for the backyard a week or so ago. We have been practicing our front flips. I likes me that trapperleen. *flies about* *...sadly, without wings*

So yeah. With the recent movie watching. And the recent trapperleen jumping.

It's true. It was a failure, especially then ending of it all. But at least they looked good, which is more than can be said for a lot of movies. I was really excited when they met up outside the Cure clinic (was I the only one who saw this as an abortion protest?) and get all snarky, but it just never accelerated to a good enough point.

yeh, that scene in particular was really bad. i mean, i like the shiney and all, but give me SOME depth. These guys were friends for years, enough so that in X:2 Pyro was willing to go back with Bobby to find Rogue while their HOUSE WAS BEING ATTCKED... now, there's no remorse or what not in dealing with the change in allegiance? And then Pyro is chastised by Magneto for bad mouthing loyalty. RIGHT THEN, there's the catalyst for the pathos that should have been the final showdown.

Bah!

I'll stop talking about it because it makes me mad!

er, 'bad mouthing loyalty' was supposed to be 'bad mouthing Prof.X'

It seems to me that there was a bit of an epidemic as far as ignoring certain pathos in that movie. Call the Pyro-Iceman issues an inconvenience they didn't feel like tackling, if you will. But that whole "Oh, Cyclops is a changed man, let's write him off completely and move on to the noobie X-Men ASAP" got my hackles up. I mean, come ON. Professor X was never that cold to any of his bebbehs, and especially not Scott Summers. But, alas, it seems the death of Scott's lover altered his brain, and also his usefulness, beyond repair. Instead of writing him off, they could have at least TRIED to help him a little.

ooooh, yeah, don't get me started on that.

"Scott's a changed man"...

really?

because it's only GRIEF, asshole! you can't help him with grief???

even temporarily?

but you're willing -- and able -- to totally fuck with Jean's mind for YEARS!!!???!!!

bah!

we should have written X:3

bastards.

Hahahaha!

Let me tell you, there are a lot of books and films right now that I have said that about: if they had just ASKED for another editor... *frowns*

Damn right! Damn right! Amen. While we can't write it, we sure as hell can rewrite it. Ah, the joys of fanfiction.

Well said, sistah.

It's like, all of a sudden, X is ready to hand over the academy to Ororo because Scott's grieving. Scott is the leader. Ororo's never been the leader, she's been the mother (nature) for the kids. Scott was the sensible, level headed one. Oh. But I guess since we had Hank, we didn't need two level-headed men. Let's off the leader. Problem solved.

Yeah, and what the hell happened to Nightcrawler? Did he just... fall off the face of the earth? *fumes*

Date: 2006-06-03 05:43 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] sarcastic-irony.livejournal.com
See, at first this didn't really bother me. I saw Nightcrawler as this mutant that came in X2, and most likely didn't plan on staying in one place for too long. That's who he is, anyway. That's how he came off in X2. BUt the more I read other people's comments the more I realize that if that had been their intention in X2, they would not have set him up the way they did at the end of that last movie. In an XMan suit and all that. They did make it rather seem as though he would stay. And he can get to anywhere int he world in a split second. Why would a nice guy who owes them so much NOT show up to help them in their hour of need? It doesn't make any sense. I feel like a twelve second scene could have done wonders between Nightcrawler and a human Mystique. Even without dialogue. That really would have added something.

Date: 2006-06-06 02:04 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] rurounihime.livejournal.com
I agree. Mystique needs to realize (as she seems to have done halfway at least) that her enemy can take every form, even that of her friend and mentor. And that friends can take equally varying shapes. Seeing as she's the queen of shapes, that would be very poignant to her.

Could have been any kind of protest in my opinion. Hell, there were at least ten points int hat movie whe you could have replaced the word "mutant" with the word "gay" and still have dialogue that made sense. One of the reasons I love this film series.

Date: 2006-05-30 09:15 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] physixxx.livejournal.com
that was big in the books, too. 'mutants getting kicked out of their homes and living on the streets when their 'rents found out they were mutants'... it was a common occurance in the comics... some of the academic readings of X-Men like to gloss over that.

Date: 2006-05-30 09:17 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] rurounihime.livejournal.com
Avoidance tactics. The subtext is as plain as day!

Date: 2006-05-30 09:15 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] sarcastic-irony.livejournal.com
Absolutely. There are many gay similarities throughout the series (and well, they all seem a bit gay anyway), but that protest with Rogue looking ashamed, not even protesting back seemed like a scene out of Saved!

I have not seen that show, but I have heard of it. How is it?
